exit through the gift shop

1. There has been debate over if this movie is genuine or a "mockumentary". What do you think? If it was a mockumentary - why would Bansky do this? Bansky likes to question and challenge with dark whimsical humour, he could be showing how ridiculous someone can get in the spotlight and how the can brand themselves to fame. MBW reminds me of myspace fame like Jeffree Star who built himself based on fame and had no reason behind work other than the fame.

2. What do you think the street artists are trying to get across to the public with their graffiti?
How can you tell they were effective? Bansky's work are anti-war, anti capitalism, anti fascism, greed poverty, hypocrisy, absurdity, ect.

3. What do you think that Mr. Brain Wash was trying to get across to the public with his art? Was he effective?
He wasn't trying to get anything across and that's the frustrating thing about him. Unlike bansky and other street artist his work had no meaning, it was all for hype.

4. What do you see as the key differences between the street artists work and MBW's work?
street artist have meaning and MBW is a fake. Hipster pproblems~5. At the end of the show lots of people showed up to the art show.  Why the long line? What brought so many people together? MBW focused all his attention on branding and promoting himself rather then focusing on the meaning and quality of art.

6. Graffiti: Is it art or vandalism? How would you react to someone painting on your wall? What similarities do you see between graffiti and guerilla marketing? Where is the line for Shepard Fairey or Banksy, when they move from making art against the mainstream machines into making money off of their art from the mainstream machines? Did they sell out or did they achieve success?

Why costumer services is so important

I think it is important because if some one is very bad a serving people, the customer won't come back because customers want to feel like princesses.

This information will help with the titans store because we have to be 100% into what were selling when we get to working in the store. If we go to the people and are friendly and helpful then they will come back.

TED Talks Dan Cobley

Basically he's making a huge metaphor that physics is just like business.
It requires more force to move larger particles in different directions, just as it is with brands.
you cannot prove a hypothesis through an observation you can only disprove it. Like when there is recalls.

Planning and organizing  are pretty much the same thing, is the pre-work before the actual work. Leading and controlling are what managers do to keep the work in line.

I like the when they treat you as part of the group. They treat you as en equal. When they make things exciting and make valid points on why it's important to do activities. I think I can make the business more exciting by showing my group things are worth while.

What did you like about the product? how easy it is to use
What did you wish was different? A better system, if it was cooler
Who would this product appeal to? People who think this is cool (high schoolers, most likely grade 12)
How could you market to them within the school?posters

What does this story teach you about customer service, customer loyalty, customer relations and the customer experience?

customer experience: when the cab driver, took him around and showed him the cool fountain
Customer loyalty: the driver traded cards and told him he would be there to pick him up whenever
costumer relations: traded cards and still kept in touch

Things I dont get

Businesses that are non-profit can be solvent because all the money they make are going straight back into their business to pay of debts.

Explain the difference between assets, liabilities and equity.
An asset is an item of value owned by a company. Liabilities are obligations of the company to transfer something of value. Equity is the owner value in an asset or group of assets.

Briefly discuss the distinctive groupings under each section and explain why they exist.

Accountig

Accounting seems like a boring job, but it's vital for any business.

"the measurement, disclosure or provision of assurance about financial information that helps managers, investors, tax authorities and others make decisions about allocating resources."

I know there are audibles and they are like accountants and there's treasures that handle and keep care of the money.

I know nothing of this.

Bad Rep

When some thing they do that could be considered "bad" surfaces in the media (like Nikes sweatshop scandal). I thing some business could be blamed when really it was not their fault, I can't really think of an example of when that has happened but I'm sure it happens. I think if a business stop whatever is considered "bad" then maybe the media could re think the way they're showing a certain business

Justin Allan-Tripping TEDtalks

He's thinking outside the box. Which, in business is the thing that makes or breaks companies. His idea started from seeing a picture 18 years ago and from that idea he has made a product (whether or not it will actually works) that people who care about the planet (which is a lot of people) will want. It's a product people have been waiting for. This is a good business idea because people have not thought of it.

Morals

When I first read it I though it was contradicting but then I remembered some peoples morals aren't always the right thing.
Here's an example:
a month after the Columbine High School Massacre the National Rifle Association went to Denver even though the Mayor asked them not to come to the tour date out of respect of the people affected on April 20th. The NRA still went to Littleton because of their conservative morals that they have the American freedom to go wherever the please. But what they did was not the right thing to do. it was inconsiderate of what happened a few months before their visit.

What would you do?

- Your friend asks you to add a few extra hours to a work time sheet for him, but you know that he did not put in the time? I would ad one hour, or maybe 30 minutes but fair is fair

 - A salesperson in an electronics store offers to sell you an iPod after hours at a discounted price?
Depends on the iPod and how much he's selling it for. But I don't think I would because I don't have a need  for one.

 - You are aware that the teller gave you back too much money when completing a banking transaction?

I'd give it back. No questions asked.

Occupy

I think the criticism is kinda dumb. If the protesters want to protest then they should. Clearly what's been happening in America has been effecting the world and even if it hasn't been effecting Canada as much they still have the right to protest about whatever they like.

I think the reason it's so viral is because it's not like 99% of the of the lower population know the 1% of the population and how they feel, they just sorta make stereotypes about them being stuck up and then we find this girl on wall street thats part of the 1% and makes the 99% re-think what they label the rich as.

Protests on Wall Street

  • Who is Occupy Wallstreet about? people who dont like whats going on on Wall Street. Jobless people. people on debt
  • What happened? Wall street tricking corporations in to huge debts. People on Wall Street have 60% of the wealth.
  • Where did it take place? Started on wall street but there are now many protests about whats going on on wall street
    • When did it take place? Started in September and still going
  • Why did it happen? Pretty much the same reasons as what.
  • How did it happen? I guess people just joined together and realized that it is a serious problem and totally unfair

Goals

I would like to say that MY goal for this coffee shop is to make this project actually have a meaning and make some sort of difference. It's not a SMART goal but it's my goal

1. Why do you want to achieve your business goal?
I honestly truthfully think that this could get people in a better mood at the school. It'll effort but I think making school a better place is worth the extra effort that will have to be put into it.

2. Is the business goal energizing?
It is for me, just thinking about it gets me excited and wanting to jump into it

3. What will it look like when you get there?
Just more happy people in the morning at school, having a better time in the morning at school which can lead to feeling good for the rest of your day. One simple idea of having fresh warm coffee right when you get to school can make 99.9% people at the school feel better and feel good.

Jobs

Our group has decided to run in a left-winged way. Marcus is president so he over seas work but he also will be doing the same amount of work as the rest, we are still following with

Noor and Vivian - Marketing
Marcus- Finance
Laurin- Human resources

Good leader

understands both sides of problem

I really think thats the only thing this article is missing. But it's hard to be a "great" leader like the title because of trying be what is on a list.

TEDtalks Sheryl Sandberg

I think what she's saying is true. My old school we had a women studies class that basically talked about this kinda stuff. She mentions a lot of data which is always sceptical but it's pretty true. Sexism is still around in work and there's more men running businesses and I think that should change. Women do think a lot different than men like she said so it makes it hard for them to go up in their work. This is a bias video, not saying it's a bad bias because it's informing people of this problem. I don't think anything would change dramatically if women had higher jobs.

Market Resarch

We surveyed 100 students from Forest Lawn and found that 77% of them would like a place to get coffee in the morning before classes. 42% of them get coffee at 7-11 and 68% are willing to pay $1.75 fo a cup of coffee.

Naming

I think our name is good. I mean I wouldn't change it. "Coffee Lovers" appeals to everyone and it also makes our team sound like we really care because of the word lovers (even if some of us don't, I really do love coffee). We did change our name from coffee shop to coffee lovers for that reason.

What I learned about trolling around Phil and Sebastian's

Well I went to P&S  and even though it's not super well known with a majority of people the hipsters are what keeps it running, and the great online reviews. Considering how successful the roasters are they don't have a lot or ads around. their marketing is done with the tourist and hipsters talking about how create their product is.

Ray Anderson TEDtalks

I really wish more people who run businesses watched this video. It means a lot to me actually. We don't think about the future a lot because we're so focused on now. The things we do now will affect the future. So lets say, there's a business present day and the make a product that uses un-renewable resources and only lasts for 2 years. But consumers want it so they sell a lot of it and when the 2 years it's finished they just throw it away because it can't recycle it or if they did it would coast more then what the products costed new. This happens a lot but what we need to realize is most people are ethical and would buy a product that does the same thing and is made from renewable resource. It's that simple to make the world a better place. Like the man said, their money went up. But it's quicker and easier to make a quick fix product that will be dumped.

That's why I want to use a regular coffee machine because it uses less waste then the tassimo disk machines. I'm sure not a lot of people would care deeply if we use different machines but made the same great coffee.

Questions

I don't have any questions about the article but the business plan seems tough and I was wondering if we have to register the name? I didn't think this had to be that legit....

Tuesday, 20 September 2011

Possible Survey Question

My survey question would be directed to students and teachers at Forest Lawn, or students 15-18. my question would be "if you drink coffee, where do you buy it"

TED talks

Well, that was one of the oddest but pivotal things I've learned in this class. Now, when we start our coffee shop we will now know that it does not matter if we get the star-bucks discs or nabob. We just need to look at it like variety on a horizontal plane. So hello Nabob Breakfast Blend, Dark and light. Not the best coffee, but the best coffees.

"On your blog answer what did you learn about team work from the last two assignments? What do you do well as a team member? Why is that important?"

I think our team works well together. I think we listen to each other and compromise (even though we agree on a lot for the most part). But I think that can be a problem if we all have the same mindset, then maybe we won't get a whole lot of ideas out of each other because we think the same. Who's to say though? it's only been the first bit of this class so maybe we'll butt heads later on. Theres definitely some leaders (Marcus and I) in the group which is what is going to help our team move forward.

"How do convincing speakers vary their speech when they speak for different purposes and to different people?"

I think it depends on the mood of what they're are talking to and their audience. if they're talking about a new product then the speaker should sound exciting and be very convincing about why the product or business is worth the consumers time.

Tuesday, 13 September 2011

"What would happen to businesses if everyone had unlimited cash?"

Business would have some troubles. If the consumers had unlimited cash there would be no labor because people would not have to work. Consumers may be able to buy more products but a the same time their would be little no labor force to make products. Businesses with products that need a lot of time and effort to make e.g. blown glass, custom guitars could lose workers if the workers do not truly love their jobs. That would leave the production to a smaller amount of people. People who have lower less important jobs in businesses wouldn't have to work so the might quit, leaving some of the little yet mediatory work not finished. But most importantly, money would be no object and in a society where there is unlimited cash money would end up being completely useless.
